The History of The Ghetto League

Origin Story

The league began around 2004 as "The Burnisher League," a 14-man fantasy football league founded by James Brown. It evolved into "The Ghetto League" in 2005 with expanded membership including Egg and PeP.

Key Historical Milestones

2006

First live-draft (held at Meadowlands, then moved to Hickey household basement), transitioned to 10-man league, introduced league fees, JoeyBurger won first championship.

2007

T-Money became commissioner, introduced Vito, reduced to 8-man league, Dave won first title.

2008

Third live-draft at Buffalo Wild Wings, Dennis joined league, PeP returned and won championship, official trophy purchased.

2009

Dave became first repeat champion, Nick joined, notable league conflict and fish tank incident.

2010

James Brown won "Worst Champion Ever," Min joined, near-collusion scheme by Hickey brothers.

2011

JoeyBurger won again, Rafael joined, trophy theft incident recovered.

2012

JoeyBurger launches "Ghetto League Travel Plan" with first trip to Washington. Nicho won championship.

2013

Buffalo trip - the only year with 100% attendance. Dennis won his first championship.

2014

Cleveland trip with Pro Football Hall of Fame visit. Jeffro won championship.

2015

Dallas trip to Jerry World. Jimmy B won his second championship.

2016

Jacksonville trip to EverBank Field. Eddie won his first championship.

2017

Tennessee trip to Nashville. Erik won championship in a nail-biter (110.24-110.18).

2018

Baltimore trip to M&T Bank Stadium. Eddie won his second championship.

2019

Pittsburgh trip for Steelers-Ravens rivalry game. Erik won his second championship.

2020

No trip due to COVID-19 pandemic. Dennis won his second championship.

2021

Atlanta trip - the league returns to travel. Ralf won his first championship.

2022

Cincinnati trip. League moves to Sleeper platform. T-Money won championship.

2023

Indianapolis trip. Min won his first championship.

2024

Charlotte trip. Min won back-to-back championships.

2025

Philadelphia trip. Pep slays the dragon to win his second championship after a 17-year drought.

Pep The Dragon Slayer

In 2025, Pep ended his 17-year championship drought by defeating back-to-back champion Min in the finals. The victory earned him the legendary title of "Dragon Slayer" - commemorated in this limited edition championship tee.
